Drug Discount Program
The cost of prescription drugs is a huge issue for all of us. The rising cost of drugs is one of the main reasons overall health care costs are going up. Blue Cross of Idaho’s pharmacy discount program allows our members to enjoy upfront savings by going to participating pharmacies. Members can experience savings of up to 10 to 15 percent on brand name drugs and 40 to 50 percent on generic drugs.
This discount program is designed for members who do not have a drug card benefit and includes members who may or may not have coverage for prescription drugs under the medical portion of their policy.
Click here to access a list of participating pharmacies or call WellPoint Pharmacy Management, Blue Cross of Idaho’s pharmacy benefit manager, at (800) 962-7378.
Obtaining the discount is easy...
All you have to do is show the participating pharmacist your Blue Cross of Idaho member identification card. They will input the information into their system, which will show your discount. You will have to pay the pharmacist for the drug at the time you receive it. If the plan you are on has a prescription benefit that is subject to deductible and coinsurance, you do not have to submit the receipt to Blue Cross. A record of the transaction is automatically sent to Blue Cross where it is processed and your benefit applied.
The amount of your discount will vary depending on what drug is being filled and what pharmacy you choose. We encourage you to check around to find the lowest prices.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I get my prescription drug benefit?
A: Simply present your identification card to a participating pharmacy at the time of purchase. If the purchase price of your prescription is greater than the discounted price available through us, you will receive your prescription for the discounted price. The discount, if available, is calculated and subtracted from the total price you pay at the time of purchase. If your identification card is not presented at the time of purchase, no discount is available.
Q: How do I know if I received a discount on my prescription?
A: At the time of purchase, your pharmacist can tell you if a discount is available. The amount of your discount may not show on your receipt.
Q: Do I still receive the same benefits under my policy with Blue Cross of Idaho that I had before the discount program?
A: If you have benefits for prescription drugs under your current policy, you have the same benefit. If you do not have a prescription drug benefit with Blue Cross of Idaho then the discount feature is the only added enhancement and you still do not have any benefits under your medical policy. Please do not file claims with Blue Cross of Idaho.
Q: Can I obtain a discount for drugs I have already bought?
A: No. If your identification card was not presented at the time of purchase, no discount is available.
